A Partnership of Homeless Service Providers

The “Lewis Center” was one of the many projects inspired by late Senator Philip D. Lewis who, envisioned a center where teams of community providers offering distinct services could work together to meet the needs of homeless clients in our community. Since 2012, the Lewis Center has been the central point of access for individuals and families seeking to end their homelessness.  The Lewis Center provides temporary housing to individuals. Clients can stay up to 90 days. There are 25 beds reserved for homeless youth, and 45 beds for men and women who are homeless. The partners of the Lewis Center are on site to assess clients and offer interim housing, medical care, life skills, job training and placement. Since the Senator Philip D. Lewis Center opened, the provider agencies have assisted more than 28,000 men, women and children in their efforts to end their homelessness.

Creating Housing Opportunities program helps families and individuals move from homelessness to home.  The program pays for the first and last month’s rent and security deposits for families and individuals who are ready to move from Permanent Supportive Housing (SHP); Transitional Housing (TH); or Interim Housing (IH) into independent permanent housing.

The Breaking Bread, Breaking Barriers meal program gives local businesses, church groups and private donors the opportunity to sponsor and/or serve meals to the 70 homeless men and women staying at the Senator Philip D. Lewis Center or the 125 men and women residing at the Senator Philip D. Lewis Center Annex.  This program not only nourishes the guests who are seeking to change their lives, but also creates awareness about homeless issues and increases the community’s interaction with the centers. Breaking Bread, Breaking Barriers has provided 250,000 meals since 2015!

The Homeless Coalition operates a donation center at the Senator Philip D. Lewis Center.  It is the collection point for donations and resources and offers opportunities for those wishing to volunteer. Donations can be made Tuesday – Friday 8AM-3PM (excluding holidays) at 1000 45th Street, West Palm Beach, FL 33407.  Contact our Resource Director, Uwe Naujak at 561-904-7937 if you have questions about what items can be accepted. Items includes housewares, linens, toys, clothing, warm welcome kits, bikes, small appliances, small furniture and anything else available.  The donation center welcomes your donations of clothing and household items!

Project Homeless Connect is a national program that encourages community collaboration which brings together community volunteers, government agencies, nonprofits, businesses, service providers, the private sector and faith organizations into a single venue. Our mission is to help individuals and families end their homelessness rapidly by allowing them to shop a host of agencies geared to help them.

The Homeless Coalition coordinates Project Homeless Connect several times a year in various communities across Palm Beach County. Services include: free food, clothing, haircuts, health screening, bikes, and comfort kits. In addition, resources, referrals and assistance are provided for housing, food stamps, employment, obtaining identification cards, and other resources that aid the family or individual.
